Confirmed for 2019, Ryan Firth. The 2018 MG Trophy Championship Class B Champion, Joins

EDF Motorsports are pleased to formally announce, that Ryan is joining us for the 2019 season in a Ginetta GT5. We will be running Ryan in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, which will be a full 32 car grid. This is great news for the team, we had the pleasure of early discussions with Ryan about a month ago. A meeting in Bourne with his manager (George Mackmurdie of Knight Industries) and ourselves followed, where we put pen to paper. We held off on the announcement until now, as we wanted to first test a car.

We managed this on Monday at Ginetta’s Blyton Park, in varying conditions. Having spent most of the session on wets, Ryan got a few laps in on slicks on a drying track, before the weather turned again. It was a great family day, with Ryan’s Mum and Dad supporting him as ever. From the teams point of view this is a great asset, as we consider ourselves a family team. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome them along as well. Ryan had a great time in the car, and immediately praised the feel of it. He was smiling like Daniel Ricardo afterwards, and we feel he is going to be like that for some time to come! Ryan is a 23 year old racing driver from Derby, who works at Rolls-Royce PLC as an Inspector. Ryan’s previous racing experience is not vast, but very successful, and he is always willing to listen to advice. He competed in the last two rounds of the MG Trophy Championship in 2016, where he finished in the top 10 in all 4 races, a great start to his career. In the 2017 season he was on the podium 3 times, at Brands Hatch, Knockhill and Snetterton, along with multiple top 10 finishes. The 2018 season loomed quickly, and podiums became a regular feature, 8 to be precise, with 4 on the top step. Ryan took a double win at the prestigious “MG Live” event on the Silverstone GP circuit, also bagging “Driver of the Race” and “Driver of the Day”. He went on to secure the Class B Championship, with a win and fastest lap at the very fast Snetterton 300 circuit.

Ryan finished every race of the season, an amazing achievement in such a short space of time, and to top it off, he managed to claim 3rd overall in the championship standings. A memorable season with plenty of close battles, many with the more powerful and slick shod Class A cars. All this in a car built and engineered by Ryan and his Dad, showing a great understanding of how to set up a winning Race Car. Ryan has also competed in the Citroen C1 24 hour races, at Spa Francorchamps and Rockingham, and was consistently one of the fastest drivers. We at EDF Motorsports, are really looking forward to the challenge in 2019 alongside Ryan. He was already showing great maturity in his drive at Blyton Park yesterday, in a relatively short time in the car. Logistics wise this coming season, we will be sharing the awning with our great friends at Reflex Racing GB Ltd. We’ve known Derek at Reflex Racing for a number of years, and have worked alongside before. He is great to work with, so it makes perfect sense for EDF as a team, due to our continuing GT4 commitments next season.
